Audioslave’s 3rd Effort Is A Treat

revelations_coverI picked up the new album by Audioslave, titled “Revelations”, last week. This album came out on Sept. 5th so I didn’t exactly race out and get it as I did with the previous two. The first couple of times I heard the first release, “Original Fire” on the radio, I wasn’t terribly impressed. Gradually, the song grew on me and now I like it a lot. While this album has the characteristic heavy guitar chords and wailing solos of Morello and driving basslines, the album has a different, more of a funk vibe to it.

Of Lions And Robots

I just found out the other day that they have re-released the Voltron action figure (or figures). I remember this being quite a popular toy during my childhood in the 80’s. I never had one but, during the height of Transformers and the lower budget and less cool, Go-bots, this toy seemed so cool. It really was a stroke of marketing genuis to have five voltronseperate robot lions that you had to purchase seperately to construct one massive robot named “Voltron”. There has been a trend in recent years to re-release many of the toys from my childhood to the, now adult, consumers, many of which regret selling, losing or blowing up their old toys. The price tag for this toy is a whopping $150! I’m not sure what the original cost was but if it was anywhere near this, I feel bad for the parents who had bought Voltron for my friends. While I definately will not be buying this, it is neat to see these various items from my days of being a kid. It makes me reminisce of a more carefree time in my life when everything seemed so much bigger and nothing was impossible. That said, I am enjoying adult life and having a lot of fun watching my kids be carefree kids as I once was and perhaps a small part of me still is.

Fall: The season not the verb (thankfully).

fall_leaf.gifWell, just a few more days until the first day of Autumn. It’s hard to believe that Summer is pretty much over, and weather wise it appears that it is. It definately feels like fall already. The smell of the air has changed as the temps have cooled and people have began using their stoves and fireplaces again. Football season is in full swing. And lastly, I had the pleasure this past Saturday of cleaning out my gutters, which let me tell you, was no small task.

5 Years Later

With the 5th anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy nearing, it’s on a lot of people’s minds.

A legend is gone.

Well, I must say I was shocked to find out that the Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin, died earlier today, due to being stung in the heart by a stingray. Though he took some major risks (some rather dumb), I didn’t think he was going to die by any other means than old age. And certainly not in this way. Apparently, he was filming an underwater documentary at the time. While I wasn’t an avid watcher of his show on Animal Planet, I liked his attitude and found him rather entertaining.

Go Hawks!!

seahawks_raiders_090106.jpgI know it’s too early to get excited but it’s hard not to when the Seahawks totally stomp on their oponent 30-7…especially when that opponent is their long-time rival the Raiders. Though it was just a preseaon game and the starters didn’t play much, I think its a sign of things to come. Alexander was in his usual form with a 5 yard rush for a TD. The perfomance by their backup QB Seneca Wallace (among others) was also quite impressive. Apparently their schedule this year is one of the easiest, barring any major injury issues, I think they have a very good chance at another Super Bowl appearance. Now they just need to save up more money than their opponent to buy off the refs! :)
