Tuesday, October 10th was Nick’s 6th birthday and as far as he’s concerned, it couldn’t come soon enough. One of his neighborhood friends, and a pretty competative one at that, turned 6 a few months ago and ever since he was counting the days unil he turned (as he says) “six rees old”. For such a monumental event
, we all took the day off from work and school for a day of fun….
The day started off bright and early with a trip to the store for a dozen donuts. After breakfast, we headed out to the Imagine Children’s Museum all the way up in Everett. It was well worth the drive as all of the kids had a wonderful time. There were lots of things to do and see and it was very educational.
The first stop was to the diner where, Nick, Sam and Taylor assumed the roles of waiters, cooks, cashiers, etc to make some delicious meals of hamburgers, ice cream sundaes, etc. Next stop was the miniature farm whe they all got to milk a plastic cow, sit on a tractor and shop for produce. There was much more role-playing including being airline passengers and pilots and the incredibly entertaining (for parents and kids alike) veteranarian office. We probably
spent the longest in this room as they meticulously cared for the stuffed pets. Sam took great care of his black bat, combing it’s hair, examining its ears and trimming it’s toe nails!! Another highlight was the water room. As you can see in the photos, there were some really cool water tables with water valves that did various things and boats and other toys to play with. The last room we went to was basically a giant Erector set. Nick and Sam put on their
vests and hard hats (safety 1st –
), got out the plans and started constructing a life-size go-cart. Being at the end of a tiring day, their attention spans were waning so we didn’t complete the project…perhaps next time.
Nick’s birthday was topped off by his favorite dinner, smiley-face, chocolate chip pancakes, bacon and eggs! The final event of the day was giving him his brand new “big kid” bike. He was very excited to get this as he had outgrown his first bike and was also tired of the kids saying he had a “little kid’s” bike. Though it was too late to go out for a ride, he couldn’t wait to sit on it. As it turns out, it was a little too big for him so we took it back and got a cool yellow bike. Jenn made the amusing observation that the first bike was labeled
“Wipeout”, which could be somewhat of a bad omen so we were please that the new bike was more positively named “Surge”. All in all, Nick had a wonderful 6th birthday but can’t wait for his car-themed party on the 28th. I posted the day’s photos in the mediaalbums.
It looks like you all had a great time! A belated Happy B
