That name actually came about because my sisters, when they were young, tried to say "Nathaniel" and it came out more like "Danno", so it was shortened to "Dan". Since I was a kid, I knew my name meant "gift of God" but it was fascinating to see that it was actually constructed of other words to attain that meaning rather than being just a definition.
